Why you need to be in Jeffreys Bay for the WinterFest

It is that time of year and where most coastal towns close their windows and doors for the cold winter, Jeffreys Bay comes alive to host the fest of fests, the Jeffreys Bay Winter Fest. Not only the town, but some of the surrounding areas will buzz with sport events, music and then for what J-Bay is so popular and well-known for, the surfing competition. 2014 sees the festival to return with more events, athletes and also the return of the Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship. For 10 days over the July holiday, J-Bay Winter Fest will entertain spectators all over the world with a variety of endurance events and some of South Africa’s most famous bands. You cannot afford to miss it.

The J-Bay Open will serve as the 6th of 11 stops on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP WCT schedule.

MTB Open, 19 July 2014
An all-new expanded mountain biking course for this years J-Bay Winter Fest, 20km, 40km, 60km and 85km routes through several farms in the area.

Fishing, 12 July 2014
With a fat price for the biggest fish for every hour and more exciting prices.

Cold Water Classic, 12 July 2014
This event offers a testing 2.5 or 7.5km through chilly waters, starting at the Infood Blue Restaurant.

Trail Run, 20 July 2014
Starting at Supers Surf Brake the first route is a loop to Point Break (2km), the next one 12km towards Kabeljous estuary and a 30km towards Gamtoos River Mouth and all finish back at Supers.

VW Rally, 11,12 July 2014
This is the 32nd annual Volkswagen Rally which will take place in and around the Port Elizabeth and Jeffreys Bay areas.

Oakley X-Over Challenge, 15,16 July 2014
This ‘cross-over’ challenge is for a number of top Oakley athletes competing in a multi-disciple event to crown an Oakley X-Over Champion for 2014.

National Kite Festival, 12, 13 July 2014
The J-Bay WinterFest will host another National Kite Festival at Kabeljous Beach.

Winter Swell Courses, 15,16 July 2014
In both Port Elizabeth and Jeffreys Bay, Surf forecaster and founder of Wavescape, Spike, will give a multi-media presentation to depict how waves form, how swell moves through the sea, what happens when it arrives at the coast, and the best ways of improving your accuracy when deciding when to surf. A course not to be missed.

The Winter Fest caters for all those adrenalin junkies who love extreme sports but if you are not into the whole extreme sport thing, you must be part of the crowd responsible for the exhilarating atmosphere. Do not forget about the music festival, dancing until dusk, what better way to warm up this winter.
